LES OEUVRES MAGIQUES DE HENRI CORNEILLE AGRIPPA., par Pierre d'Aban, Latin et Francais, Avec Des Secrets Occultes.

1798, A Liege (actual date and place). 16mo. 139 pp + (4 pp). Original half vellum binding. Several magical diagrams in the text.

 

What we have here is a very rare and uncatalogued edition of one of the most rare french grimoires. There is an edition which has 1744 imprinted on it but that is is actually a Blocquel imprint and the most common (yet extremely hard to find) produced somtime in the early 19th century. The only other catalogued edition from the 18th century I know is from 1788 also in Liege (Coumont A2.18). This 1798 edition is unheard of to the best of my knowledge both in catalogues and libraries around the world, so this could well be a unique copy of this very sought after grimoire. It relies mainly on the works attributed to Agrippa, adding elements from manuscripts of the time. However the attribution to P.d'Aban is fictitious since he lived one century earlier than Agrippa. The book also has some unique sigils and a folding chart of Abano's Magical circle..

The book is in very good condition. The spine has a 1.5 cm line-hole (which dosen't effect anything), the binding some rubbing otherwise clean and tight.
